Purpose of this website

This website is a complete description of the IMAGE 3.0, the Integrated Model to Assess the Global Environment version 3.0, not an update to earlier versions.

{{#set:
All components of the model are described in broad terms, with a focus on functionalities, feedbacks, uncertainties, and possible policy applications.

The typical reader is someone working at the science-policy interface, a client or partner for assessments with IMAGE 3.0, i.e. someone who has a general understanding of global environmental problems and the related policy challenges.

The results presented should illustrate the type of studies that can be carried out with IMAGE. They are based on recent IMAGE assessments, as far as possible taken from peer-reviewed literature or published PBL reports. For more detail, we refer to underlying scientific papers. These are indicated in every component as “Main publications”.

Set-up of this website
|

A general introduction to IMAGE 3.0, and the main model setup can be found under the introduction to the framework and the IMAGE Framework summary.

The Framework overview gives a schematic view of the various model components.

You can access all components from this overview to get a detailed description.

Every model component is described following the same structure:

# Introduction with the in- and output variables;

# Detailed model description;

# Policy issues;

# Data, uncertainty and limitations.

Each description of a model component provides a model flow diagram, a figure with baseline results, and a figure with results for one (or several) policy interventions. The flows of information is mapped from inputs, via process steps to outputs, showing the relation to other parts of the model. The model description concentrates on key process steps, and gives reference to underlying scientific papers for more detail. Relevant policy applications to which the module can contribute are identified, including an example for baseline development and policy intervention, rounded off with generated reflection on uncertainties and limitations.

All of these aspects are provided on the sub-pages. To return to the framework overview, you can click on the icon given at the right top of each page.

The scenario drivers for the IMAGE framework are described with a slightly different setup.

Each component is readable on its own, so that a person interested in a specific assessment area can start reading at the respective chapter.

Overviews
Further information can be found by looking at the overviews or by browsing the website.

Under 'Main overviews' the main overviews are provided, together with a list of all overviews on this wiki and some background information pages.

Via browse data you can browse the website per category. This is the most direct way to search for the information if you already know what you are looking for. If you are looking for specific information you can also use the search function.
