Description: Increase the use of wood from highly productive wood plantations instead of wood from (semi-) natural forests.
Reference: PBL, 2010;
Is implemented in: Forest management
Associated theme items: Forestry (Land use)Other land use (Land use)Terrestrial biodiversity (NB)

Associated policy response component

Component: Land and biodiversity policies
Page: Land and biodiversity policies/Forestry sector

Effects of this policy intervention on components

Component: Forest management
Effect : this intervention decreases the area impacted by forestry/logging

Component: Natural vegetation and carbon cycle
Effect : Forest management options including enhanced plantation establishment have an effect on the C pools in the terrestrial biosphere and the CO2 exchange between biosphere and atmosphere (NPP, NEP).

Component: Terrestrial biodiversity
Effect : Terrestrial biodiversity is effected in two ways: 1) the area with forestry impacts will be smaller, and 2) the biodiversity value of plantations will be lower than (semi-)natural forests in which logging takes place.
